SP Group began in retail in Koira. Under Late Shri Sarju Prasad Sahoo, the family built up multiple retail stores in Koira, Sundargarh, while mining was emerging as the region’s economic force.
In the early 2000s the family entered mining, then the iron ore trading business, and then the iron industry: iron ore beneficiation, DRI processing and steel recycling. Hospitality followed, along with fuel stations, logistics, and retail and entertainment in Rourkela.
Today the group is led by the family’s second and third generations, with a simple principle carried forward: identify the opportunity, build with purpose, and keep moving forward.
